Garda Compensation claims

A Garda who sustains an injury while preforming his/her duties, may be able to bring a personal injury* claim under the Garda Siochana (Compensation) Act.

 

Such claims are limited injuries which have been:

(a) maliciously inflicted while a Garda is in the performance of their duties or
(b) maliciously inflicted in the general capacity of a member of an Garda Siochana when off duty;
(c) which have been maliciously inflicted because they are members of An Garda Siochana.

 

All claims must be submitted to the Garda Compensation Section within three months of the date of the incident. Late claims must get the approval of the Minister. Defendants of Garda who have been fatally injured can also make a claim, provided

What information should I bring to my consultation?

 

Firstly, if you do not have any of the following information, do not be concerned as we will generally be able to source it ourselves.
However, if possible you should bring the following:

1. Details of the date of the accident/assault.
2. Details of the perpetrator, if known.
3. Copies of any reports which have been filed
4 Contact details of any witnesses
5. Contact details of your medical practitioners
